Myrrh essential oil is a hydro-distillate from the rich resin of the small, thorny Commiphora Myrrha trees that grow in the dry, sunny Somali landscape. Commiphora resins contain an exceptionally wide range of molecules, from the most volatile aromatic monoterpenes to the heavier sesquiterpene compounds - components with valuable therapeutic and skin care properties.

Myrrh oil has a warm, sweet-earthy, soft, dense, rich aroma with excellent fixing properties and can be used effectively in aromatherapy and natural perfume blends.

Commiphora myrrha trees, with knotted branches, three-leaf aromatic leaves and delicate white flowers, are native to northern India and northern Africa. The trunk exudes a natural oleoresin when pierced, and the pale-yellow liquid hardens into reddish brown droplets known as Myrrh. An ingredient of incense used for religious ceremonies and disinfection by the ancient Egyptians, it was also an ingredient of the famous Egyptian perfume kyphi and was an important ingredient in embalming. It was reputed to reduce wrinkles and maintain a youthful complexion. Egyptian women used myrrh in their facial preparations (it has a mild cooling effect on the skin, so would be especially useful in hot, dry climates).
Commiphora resins contain an exceptionally wide range of molecules, from the most volatile aromatic monoterpenes to the heavier sesquiterpene compounds - components with valuable therapeutic and skin care properties that are still widely used in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine today. Myrrh essential oil is also great for helping mature skin problems such as redness and reducing wrinkles and scars when added to a carrier oil or lotion. In addition to the skin's deeply healing properties, Myrrh Oil is also helpful in controlling minor pain and inflammation and promoting healthy lung activity. In an oral mixture, a myrrh gargle or mouthwash can help support gum health. This essential oil can also help reduce the effect of a painful menstrual cycle by supporting the overall health of the uterus. Myrrh essential oil strengthens the immune system and has an overall beneficial effect on the digestive system.

Emotionally and energetically, Myrrh essential oil is often used during meditation to create a relaxing and uplifting atmosphere. When used in a diffuser, Myrrh Oil can help relieve nervous tension and induce feelings of strength. It can also help with overthinking and stabilize a distracted mind.
