Angelica Root essential oil is steam distilled from the roots of the flowering biennial Angelica archangelica plant that has been carefully grown in France. Also called Garden Angelica, Wild Selerie or Norwegian Angelica, this essential oil has a very fine, delicate, rich, earthy, green-herb, extremely tenacious aroma with peppery top notes and clean, spicy, musky undertones.
Often placed at the forefront of medicinal plants by early herbalists, Angelica is simultaneously gently stimulant and at the same time sedative. Its relaxing effect makes it as powerful as ginger in aiding digestion. Angelica has been used traditionally, especially in Chinese medicine, as a natural restorative for its ability to soothe menopausal symptoms and negative moods, as well as for its skin-enhancing properties.

Matricine occurs exclusively in the CO2 extract and has an inflammatory effect up to 10 times stronger. Therapeutically, the combination of the essential oil and the CO2 extract is often used.

Contraindications: Angelica root is non-toxic, non-irritating or sensitizing at a low dose. Due to the presence of furocoumarins, this oil has a phototoxic effect. Overdose can lead to insomnia.
