Vegetable Oils

Carrier oils

Carrier oils, also called base oils or fatty vegetable oils – are cold-pressed, unprocessed and 100% pure and still contain all vitamins, minerals, and unsaturated fatty acids. They serve as a base for skin and massage oils and other cosmetic products. j'Olie et Co Aromatherapy mainly has special oils and macerates in its range and are particularly suitable for body, skin, and hair care.

It is important that the oil is cold pressed. Excellent quality oil is cooled separately during the (cold) pressing, so that the oil retains all its strength and vitality. These cold-pressed oils are more expensive than the regular cold-pressed oils but pay for themselves through the good results during use. Well-known base oils are Neem Oil and Tamanu Oil.

Macerated oils

Some carrier oils are made by adding parts of another plant to a vegetable oil and letting it soak for a few weeks. We call this a macerate. The macerate contains 10% of the plant's fat-soluble substances. The plant parts gradually release their lipophilic substances to the carrier, resulting in a (phyto)therapeutic product.

Dried herbs, water extracts and oil extracts are active herbal ingredients that are added to formulations to increase the biological properties of the product, providing nutrition and healing benefits. Medicinal plants provide a wide range of skin benefits through components called bioactive compounds and can be used directly in the formulation as a powder or in the form of an extract.

Water soluble extracts can be used in the form of a glycerite or even as a water infusion and they provide all the water-soluble components of the plant in the product. Oil macerates, on the other hand, are lipophilic extracts and bring the oil-soluble components of the plant into the formulation. Well-known macerates are Arnica and Passiflora.

All but one of our massage oils are composed of cold-pressed organic Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba. Almond is a very versatile oil and suitable for massages because of its fatty structure. Sweet almond oil contains vitamins A and E as well as zinc and can aid in skin regeneration. This oil is widely used in traditional medicine to maintain the skin's elasticity and its youthful appearance. Jojoba is a great choice for massage oils, for products designed to protect the skin from the elements, as it creates a very light film on the skin that helps prevent transepidermal water loss. Jojoba is really a wax that is liquid at room temperature. It has fantastic moisturizing properties and builds a skin protective layer and accelerates the recovery of this layer. The different compositions of these base oils, whether added with essential oil blends, provide beneficial and effective body massages.

Our Massage Oil "Sensitive" is a composition of Avocado oil with a hint of Helichrysum oil. Avocado oil is made from the pulp. The avocado pulp usually contains about 15-40% oil, but the extraction must take place when the pulp is dried, otherwise it would emulsify. It is a stable oil with a long shelf life compared to some other oils. Avocado oil is a good choice for nut-free carrier oil. It is also an oil that many people with skin allergies respond well to and has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. It is a “stretched oil” meaning it spreads well over the skin, making it great as a massage oil. As an extra we have added a hint of Helichrysum essential oil.
