Ho wood comes from the Chinese laurel, a tree of the Lauraceae family native to China, Taiwan and Japan. The wood is distilled to yield an essential oil that is often proposed as an alternative to essential oil of rosewood, since the rosewood tree has became an endangered species.
This botanical species of Cinnamomum camphora has different chemotypes resulting from the different growing conditions such as climate, soil, altitude, etc. To be clear, the three different essential oils of Cinnamomum camphora are produced from the plant's three different chemotypes:
Hon Sho - the camphor chemotype - producing camphor oil
Ho Sho - the Linalool chemotype - that produces Ho Wood Oil
Yu Sho - the Cineole chemotype - producing Ravintsara oil
